About Us

GO2 Ponds in Context

Conventional wastewater treatment is extremely capital- and energy-intensive, with high construction, maintenance, and operation budgets, large labor requirements, high carbon emissions, and daily production of sludge. Sewage sludge is infectious and is typically disposed of in a landfill, where its further decomposition results in the emission of methane, a potent greenhouse gas.

In contrast, GO2 Water’s technology is carbon-negative and recovers energy through an optimal method of in-pond methane fermentation and biogas collection, and through biofixation of carbon dioxide into microalgae used in the process.  Because all the organic solids in the wastewater are anaerobically digested and converted to biogas, there is no sludge accumulation and thus no sludge handling or disposal necessary.  This feature is unique in the wastewater treatment industry.

Also unique is our engineered use of microalgae to photosynthetically oxygenate the water and remove nutrients.  Whereas most aquatic plants release their oxygen to the atmosphere, algae release oxygen directly into the water through solar-powered photosynthesis.

Known in the scientific literature as Advanced Integrated Wastewater Pond Systems® (AIWPS®) and being newly branded as GO2 Ponds, our method is a biomimetic technology that uses a series of ponds engineered to mimic the same environments and the same biological and chemical processes that nature uses to treat water contaminated with organic wastes and nutrients.

We are proud to present GO2 Ponds as the most sustainable wastewater treatment, energy and nutrient recovery, and water reclamation technology available.  The advantages and economy we offer over existing technologies will allow us to play a key role in improving and extending sanitation throughout the world at significant savings.

Sustainability

One of the reasons our product is so economical is that our bioreactors are constructed of earthwork; their greater volumes have lower unit costs and two to five times the lifespan of conventional facilities, which use steel-reinforced concrete or metal tanks and mechanical aeration.. GO2 Ponds will last 50+ years and have few mechanical parts. Recovery of biogas offsets the modest energy required by our treatment process, and industrial clients with high strength wastewater will benefit further by capturing enough biogas to offset a significant portion of their natural gas or electricity needs.

These are some of the naturally occuring algae species that clean the water for us!

The GO2 Water Team

The GO2 Water Team is comprised of Ph.D. scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs sharing several decades of experience in the wastewater, environmental and renewable energy fields.   The core technology was first pioneered forty years ago and continues to evolve, now enjoying its third generation of significant improvements, most of which are protected by patents awarded in the U.S. and in more than a dozen other countries.
